Tengah New Town is the up and coming housing district that is currently being developed by the Housing & Development Board (HDB).

More amenities and supporting infrastructure will have to be added to meet the needs of those who are moving into the estate.

S$739.5 million contract to build Tengah depot

On Nov. 20, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that it had awarded a S$739.5 million civil contract to design and construct the Tengah Depot, which will be built next to Tengah New Town.

It will presumably support operations on the Jurong Region Line, which will be opening from 2026 onwards.

Here it is:

Contract awarded to Chinese construction company

The multi-million dollar contract went to the Singapore branch of China Railway 11 Bureau Group Corporation.

The construction company was responsible for several major infrastructure projects on the East-West Line’s Tuas West Extension, specifically, Tuas Link, Tuas West Road and Tuas Crescent stations.

They also constructed Singapore's first integrated Rail and Road Viaduct.

Construction to be completed by 2026

The construction of Tengah Depot is expected to begin in 2020 and be completed by 2026.

Once completed, it will be Singapore's 10th MRT depot.

Occupying a 44.5-hectare site, Tengah Depot will comprise an Integrated Rail and Bus depot, ancillary buildings and a transport workers’ dormitory.

It is also expected to house 100 trains, 600 buses as well as their maintenance facilities and a dormitory for 450 bus captains.

Tengah depot an important milestone

According to Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan, the building of Tengah Depot "is an important milestone for the Tengah New Town":
