Hong Kong police fired three live rounds on Monday morning (Nov. 11) during a scuffle with protesters, one of which hit a protester in the chest at close range.

This latest incident was broadcast live on Facebook by a local media company called Cupid Producer.

Three shots fired in total

According to Hong Kong Free Press, the shooting took place at an intersection outside Tai On Building at Sai Wan Ho, at around 7:15am.

A police officer reportedly tried to chase the protesters, before he was seen pulling out a pistol and pointing it at the crowd.

He grabbed a man dressed in white, as seen here in this screenshot:

The man fell to ground immediately.

In the video, two other shots were fired, although it is unclear if they had struck anyone.

Another man was then seen on the ground, pinned down by another officer.

According to RTHK, an ambulance arrived around six minutes after the shots were fired. The first man who was shot appeared to be unresponsive, and blood stains were visible on the road.

Many people were also heard on the livestream shouting at the police, demanding an explanation for the shooting.

Another Twitter video showed a police officer dressed in riot gear trying to move the protester who was shot to sit upright. He later lay the protester back down on the ground.

Protests part of wider plan to mobilise general strike

The protests were reportedly an attempt to disrupt the Monday morning commute as part of a wider plan to mobilise a strike.

HKFP reported that MTR and light rail services in Hong Kong were disrupted, with arrests also made in Tuen Mun, Wong Tai Sin and Sha Tin.
