The Founders' Memorial is slated to open in 2027.

What is the Founders' Memorial?

The Founders’ Memorial will feature an integrated gallery and garden.

The memorial will commemorate the values and ideals exemplified by Singapore’s first-generation leaders.

It will also feature key personalities who played important roles in Singapore’s path to independence and had a vital part to play in the early years of Singapore’s nation-building process.

It will be constructed on a five-hectare site in Bay East Garden, situated in the Marina Bay area, and made accessible to all visitors.

What are the shortlisted designs?

A two-stage international architectural design competition was launched by the National Heritage Board, Singapore, to invite design proposals for the Founders’ Memorial.

Five designs have been shortlisted for selection:

Envisioned as a circle rising above the landscaped podium, this design represents a beacon guiding Singapore into the future.

Beneath the circular structure, there is a podium called Origin, which is an open space where visitors are channelled into the centre.

This design is inspired by the Singapore flag, as the site is marked by five pathways, representing the five stars and the memorial representing the crescent moon.

Each pathway commemorates the ideals represented by each star on the flag.

This design is shaped like a cradle, inspired by the hands of our founding fathers nurturing the nation into what it is today.

It nestles the Singapore skyline in its cusp.

This design evokes the image of a crescent moon rising out of the earth. It is set on the water and amidst the gardens and skyline views.

A central plaza allows visitors to gather to honour the past and the diversity of Singapore's people.

Using the concept of journeying down a path, multiple paths shape the architecture and landscape of this design.

This allows visitors to learn and reflect as they move towards the memorial amphitheatre for milestone events, retracing our founders' legacy.
