That's not an insignificant amount of money.

The teenage daughter of Chinese singer Faye Wong and Chinese actor Li Yapeng entered the media spotlight recently for a particular piece of art she created.

But not really for the right reasons.

"Panda and Bamboo"

Here's a better look at the artwork, which not only includes a panda but two birds and some bamboo as well.

The artwork has been aptly titled, "Panda and Bamboo".

A news site on Weibo stated that although the drawing looked "simple", the "strokes were refined".

Rather impressively, Li's artwork was auctioned off for a whopping NT$3.8 million (S$169,414).

On Weibo, Li was also praised by her father not only for her drawing talent. He also compared her to famous musician Beethoven for her purported proficiency in music.

She was also praised to be a "perfect second-generation superstar".

Netizens criticised artwork

Immediately, some social media users raised their eyebrows, with several saying the amount of money received was only possible due to her parents' celebrity status and their popularity.

Some criticised the quality of the artwork as well.

"With her parent's fame, I bet she can do most things, this is the difference she has compared to ordinary children."

"I can only say, as long as you are willing to spend money, anything is possible, hehe."

"Someone didn't attend art classes when she was young."

"Even my three-year-old kid can draw a thousand times better! Haha."

"Shouldn't she inherit the singing or acting talents? Why is she talented at drawing?"

Proceeds from auction go to charity

It was revealed though, that the proceeds from the auction would be donated to a charity benefiting Chinese children with cleft lips.

The charity, Smile Angel Foundation, was founded by Li's parents in 2006.

Li herself was born with a congenital cleft lip, and her parents had to send her overseas for reconstructive surgery due to the lack of available resources in China.

Some salty Weibo users pointed out that Li's parents probably bought their daughter's artwork

"Her father and mother bought the artwork themselves."

However, others defended her and said that regardless of who bought the artwork, the money would still be for a good cause.

"Regardless of who the buyer is, Smile Angel Foundation will not function without money! Li Yan is doing charity work and the buyer is also doing it for the charity."

"This is just one drawing and you judge her quality of work just based on that, maybe she has better artwork but did not show to others."
