A 24-year-old man from Guangdong Province, southeast China visited a hospital after suffering from an earache, only to have doctors discover a family of cockroaches in his right ear canal.

Found cockroaches in his ear

In October 2019, the man, who was only identified as Lv, had complained about a sharp pain in his right ear.

After family members shone a light inside his ear and found a large cockroach, Lv went to Sanhe Hospital to seek help, reported New York Post.

That was when ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, Zhong Yijin, discovered 10 baby cockroaches, in addition to the large one that was initially found.

A video of the cockroaches moving inside Lv's ear was uploaded by Mirror.

Yijin said that the baby cockroaches were "already running around" in the ear when he was examining it.

Cockroaches eventually removed from ear

The baby cockroaches, as well as the supposed mother cockroach, were eventually removed by Yijin using a pair of tweezers.

Fortunately, Lv only sustained minor injuries from this incident and was discharged on the same day.

He was also prescribed an ointment to help heal his ear canal.

He had poor hygiene

The healthcare professionals who attended to Lv suspected that the incident happened due to his poor hygiene.

Lv was believed to have a habit of leaving unfinished food packets near his bed, thus attracting the insects.

It was later confirmed that the cockroaches in his ear were of a German species called blattella germanica.

Seems like Lv was lucky because according to New York Post, the blattella germanica cockroach usually lays up to 30 to 40 eggs.
