According to the Indonesian police, 18 Singaporeans were injured from the incident.
A total of 13 of them were sent to the Bhayangkara Hospital immediately, while five sustained light injuries and were treated at the scene.
Out of the 13 injured Singaporeans, two were severely injured with one of them suffering a fracture in the foot and the other suffering a fractured bone in the ribs, according to Detik.
The bridge, about 30m high and 70m long, gave way after the tourists stood on the bridge.
There were about 60 people on the bridge taking photos, the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Colonel S. Erlangga estimated.
The wooden foundations of the bridge could have decayed, weakening the ability of the structure to withstand the pressure, he added.
According to a spokesperson from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officers from the Consulate-General in Batam are at Bhayangkara Hospital offering consular assistance.
Investigations are ongoing.
