A Singaporean boy drowned in a swimming pool aboard a cruise ship in Malaysia.

The cruise ship, Genting Dream, had just arrived from at Langkawi from Singapore, and was docked at the Star Cruise Jetty on the afternoon of Nov. 18, 2019.

The luxury liner, ferrying around 3,000 passengers, was then scheduled for Phuket, Thailand in the evening, reported Bernama.

At around 7:30pm, local police at the Padang Matsirat Police Station received an emergency call regarding a drowning incident involving a child.

The victim, a 10-year-old boy identified as Alan Heng Kai Lun, was on vacation with his mother and a friend, and had reportedly drowned in the swimming pool on the cruise ship.

Initial investigations revealed that the child had drowned while bathing in the pool, Langkawi district police chief Mohammad Iqbal Ibrahim told Bernama.

In a statement by Dream Cruises, they stated that the ship's onboard medical team tried to resuscitate the boy, but were unable to revive him, reported Today.

Iqbal revealed that the child's body has since been sent to the Sultanah Maliha Langkawi Hospital.

Dream Cruises said that were cooperating with the relevant authorities and were providing the family members with the necessary assistance.

The cruise ship eventually continued its course towards Phuket at 10:30pm.
