Typhoon Hagibis made landfall at around 7pm Japan Standard Time in Shizuoka on October 12, 2019.

The full impact of the typhoon is still unclear, but here is what we know about the damage caused so far.

There have been four confirmed deaths.

According to NHK, seventeen people had been reported missing, and 90 people were injured.

Two other people have gone missing from landslides, and rescue efforts are underway to find them. Two people were swept up by the waters, one was rescued, but another is still missing.

NHK reported that two houses had collapsed in a landslide and three cars were washed away near the Chikuma river.

And all this is just the officially confirmed damage wrought on the first day.

Heavy rain emergency warnings were initially issued in Tokyo, Shizuoka, Kanagawa, Saitama, Gunma, Yamanashi, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Fukushima, Miyagi and Niigata.

Yamanashi's warning however was lifted earlier.

The next day

While the typhoon has moved back off land, the destruction it has left in its wake is quite substantial.
