SingPost has introduced adjustments after a full review of its products and services.

The adjustments were undertaken in part due to growing e-commerce and falling mail volumes.

The adjustments include new postal service categories and an increase in airmail rates.

Letters and printed papers

According to a SingPost news release, they will accept letters and printed papers weighing up to 500g under Basic Mail, previously known as Ordinary Mail. The rates will remain unchanged.

Registered Service will also be an optional service for letters and printed papers.

Small parcels delivery

From December 2, you can mail small parcels (501g to 2kg) under two new categories, Basic Package and Tracked Package.

Basic Package ranges from S$0.90 and S$3.50.

Tracked Package will be an over-the-counter package delivery service ($3.20 to $4.80).

Senders can track their package deliveries, and recipients will receive notifications and receive the packages at their letterboxes. This means there will not be any doorstep deliveries starting December 2.

According to SingPost, recipients will no longer need to wait at home for the delivery and therefore the number of missed deliveries will be reduced.

The change is expected to improve work efficiency of postmen and overall service standards.

Increase in airmail rates

SingPost will revise the airmail rates from December 2 as well. This is in response to the yearly increase in international mail rates from postal operators as a result of increasing international postal settlement rates.

SingPost said that it has not passed this additional cost to consumers for the past five years.

However, there was a jump in charges imposed by the overseas postal operators by more than 25 per cent in 2018.

For Malaysia and Brunei, there will be an increase of S$0.20 in airmail rates.

There will be an increase of S$0.10 for other countries.

Aerogramme rates will also increase by $0.10 per piece.

Registered Service (International) fee will also increase from S$2.50 to S$3.60, in addition to the applicable postage fees.

International surface (sea/land) mail rates and airmail rates for packages, will not see any changes.
