Following the opening of Thomson Nature Park last week, NParks has introduced another new nature place for Singaporeans to visit on Oct. 19, 2019.
This time, it's at the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG), a UNESCO world heritage site.
New hiking trail
A new hiking trail, also known as the Mingxin Foundation Rambler’s Ridge, is opened for members of the public to visit from Oct. 19, 2019.
The trail is 350m long and is a more challenging alternative to reach the highest point in the SBG.
The highest point of SBG is 40m above sea level, about a quarter the height of Bukit Timah Hill, the highest point in Singapore.
The first 150m of the trail is wheelchair-friendly with barrier-free paths and lined with trees such as the critically endangered oak trees.
Visitors can enjoy seeing plants such as the Ant Plant, carnivorous plants such as the Narrow-lid Pitcher Plant and Raffles' Pitcher Plant which are resilient enough to grow in poorer soil conditions and withstand strong winds.
Gallop extension
The new Mingxin Foundation Rambler’s Ridge is part of the Gallop extension, which consists of eight-hectare wide open lawns surrounded by forested landscapes.
To help you visualise, that is about 11 football fields big.
The Gallop Extension, which is located in Gallop Road, can be accessed via a 200m bridge extending across Tyersall Avenue from the Learning Forest next year.
