During the 2019 National Day Rally, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced an upcoming redevelopment of Singapore's Greater Southern Waterfront.

As part of this redevelopment, the largest Merlion statue in Sentosa will be demolished to make way for a linkway between Resorts World Sentosa and Sentosa's beaches in the south.

Sentosa Island and Pulau Brani will be redeveloped into a "game-changing leisure and tourism destination", according to the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).

This Sentosa-Brani Masterplan will be rolled out over the next 20 to 30 years.

"It will see SDC leveraging the islands’ ridge-to-reef attributes to bring in world-class attractions as well as fresh and bold night-time offerings, while enhancing last-mile transport connectivity to and within the islands," said SDC.

Future visitors can look forward to environmentally sustainable spaces and concepts, including rejuvenated beaches, as well as nature and heritage trails.

The redeveloped islands will feature five distinct zones which will progressively take on more leisurely characteristics as visitors proceed further away from the city, into Sentosa.

These zones are:

  1. Vibrant Cluster
  2. Island Heart
  3. Waterfront
  4. Ridgeline
  5. Beachfront.

Sentosa Sensoryscape to be completed by 2022

The first project under the Sentosa-Brani Master Plan is the Sentosa Sensoryscape.

Spanning the size of 5.5 football fields, the Sentosa Sensoryscape will connect Resorts World Sentosa in the north to the Sentosa's beach in the south.

This is a two-tiered walkway which has features that will stimulate all five senses, including plants that respond to your touch, the sounds of cascading water, and plants with unique scents.
