The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to two separate cases of fire involving personal mobility devices (PMDs) on Oct. 28, which left two individuals injured.
First fire occurred at a HDB flat in Bedok North Ave 4
At about 11:15am, the SCDF responded to an incident on the seventh floor at Block 106 Bedok North Ave 4.
The SCDF used a water jet to put out the fire, which left the kitchen completely burnt.
A male occupant of the unit was also conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.
About 40 occupants from the affected block self-evacuated before the arrival of the SCDF.
Second fire occurred at e-scooter shop at Lorong 19 Geylang
At about 11:55am, the SCDF responded to a second incident at an e-scooter shop at No. 33 Lorong 19 Geylang.
The SCDF used a water jet to put out the fire at a storage room within the e-scooter shop.
A worker from the shop was also conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for burn injuries.
How to prevent PMD fires
Preliminary investigations indicate that both fires were of electrical origin from PMDs, which were charging at the time of the fires.
LTA encourages all PMD owners to use UL2272 certified devices, and all owners of non-UL2272 certified PMDs are strongly encouraged to dispose of their devices at designated disposal points as soon as possible.
