Climbing one mountain is an incredible feat.
You might have to invent a word for what this man did.
Nepal's Nirmal Purja climbed a ridiculous 14 mountains within seven months.
And not any random mountains either, he climbed the 14 tallest mountains in seven months.
Nepal Times helpfully compiled his feat of endurance and when he completed each climb.
"He climbed Annapurna I (23 April), Dhaulagiri (12 May) Kanchenjunga (16 May) both Everest and Lhotse (23 May) and Makalu (25 May). Climbing those 6 peaks within 31 days was itself a record. Then he went on to climb Nanga Parbat (6 July), Gasherbrum I (15 July), Gasherbrum II (18 July), K2 (24 July) Broad Peak(26 July). He came back in the autumn to climb Cho Oyu (23 September) and Cho Oyu (27 September)."
The very last mountain, Shishpagma, he scaled today.
In fact, if you vaguely recall his name, it is because he was the man who took the picture of the "traffic jam" at Everest earlier this year. The extraordinary feat was carried out in a breathtaking time, beating the last record holder, Kim Chang-Ho, by a monumental seven years and five months.
Purja crowdfunded his climbs through Project Possible.
According to The Nepal Times, the two major hurdles Purja faced, ironically enough, didn't involve so much the mountaineering aspect.
He was mostly delayed by Visa approvals and rescuing stranded climbers.
The former Gurkha accomplished the task at "8:58 local time", Purja and his team reached the summit of Shisha Pangma, where Purja exclaimed, "Mission Achieved!".
Very much so.
