A man in Taiwan, in his last surviving month before he succumbed to his illness, write 19 birthday letters for his then one-year-old daughter.

The birthday letters were meant to contain all his well wishes for his daughter (not pictured) from when she was two in 2007, till she turned 20 in 2025.

This heart-wrenching story was recounted by the daughter's mother through a Facebook post dated Monday, Oct. 7.

Dad died when daughter was 1 year 4 months old

Facebook user Bella Chu said her daughter was born in January, 2005.

However, her father died a year later in May due to liver cancer, when she was just a little over a year old.

Chu revealed that in the month before he died, he painstakingly penned the letters for his daughter, despite feeling physically weak.

Each of the letters contained his hopes and wishes for his daughter in life, Chu said.

Mum kept letters for daughter

But as their daughter was too young, Chu said she has been helping her to keep the letters, thinking that she would pass her daughter the letters when the latter gets a bit older.

Now that their daughter is in third year of junior high school (around 14 to 15 years old), Chu said she is finally returning the letters to their rightful owner.

Never opened the letters

Addressing her daughter, who has been staying at a boarding school since she started junior high, Chu said she has never opened, nor thought of opening the letters.

Chu, who is currently working in Beijing, China, said: "You father, who had passed away too early, left these words for you. I hope that you'll use your heart to listen to what he wanted to say."
