Shaun Ng Wei Xuan, 22, admitted in court on Oct. 3 to taking upskirt photos of women on at least 99 occasions over six weeks.
Ng, who was a polytechnic student at the time of his offences, was caught while he was targeting a 17-year-old girl in Hougang Mall, in December 2017.
The Singaporean pleaded guilty to two charges of intruding on a woman's privacy to insult her modesty, according to CNA.
Took upskirt photos of women as photographs aroused him
According to the report, the court heard that Ng started taking upskirt photos of women in October 2017, as the photographs "sexually aroused him".
Deputy Public Prosecutor Winston Man stated that Ng had targeted women dressed in "revealing clothing such as short dresses, short skirts, and tight dresses".
The photos were taken in public, in areas such as shops, trains, buses, and escalators.
Caught while taking upskirt photos of girl in Hougang Mall
The accused's actions were discovered by a 24-year-old man.
In December 2017, Ng was taking upskirt photos of a 17-year-old girl in Popular bookstore in Hougang Mall.
According to CNA, Ng squatted down and took photos of her while she was browsing the gift card section.
The victim felt suspicious as the accused had reportedly been squatting next to her for an unusually long time, but did not realise what was going on.
The witness, Alexander Tay, noticed Ng angling his camera lens towards her skirt.
The witness subsequently asked the victim and her sister if they wanted to call the police.
The accused tried to leave the scene, but Tay blocked him and demanded to see his phone.
Ng only relented when Tay said he would call the police, and the victim asked Ng to delete the photos he had of her.
She called the police afterwards, who detained Ng and seized his phone.
