A Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officer was charged on Oct. 4 with assaulting a man to extort a confession from him about drugs found in his bag.

According to various local media reports, 32-year-old narcotics officer Vengedesh Raj Nainar Nagarajan was on Friday (Oct. 4) accused of kicking, slapping and punching a victim, Sivabalan Kanniappan on three separate occasions, on Jan. 2, 2017.

Punched, kicked and slapped victim in toilet

According to CNA, charge sheets showed that all three offences had occurred between 5:58am to 9:30am on Jan 2, 2017, in the toilet of a CNB office at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Vengedesh reportedly attacked the victim to force him to confess that he knew about two bundles of drugs found in his raincoat bag.

The court documents also showed that Vengedesh wanted Sivabalan to confess that one of the bundles contained heroin, CNA reported.

May face jail of up to seven years

Mothership has reached out to the CNB regarding the employment status of Vengedesh.

In response to Mothership's query, a spokesperson for the CNB said that the officer has since Oct. 5, 2019 been interdicted (barred) from service with the enforcement agency.

His case will next be mentioned on Nov. 1.

If convicted, the narcotics officer could face up to seven years in jail, with fine or caning.
