A 44-year-old man has been charged with molesting a 13-year-old girl in an MRT train leaving Bukit Gombak station.

Arrested five days after incident happened

In a statement on Wednesday (Oct. 2) night, the Police said the incident happened on Sep. 26.

The suspect allegedly molested the girl in an train travelling from Bukit Gombak station, along the North-South line.

Police said the man left the scene after the incident, and a report was filed.

Officers from Jurong Police Division identified him through their investigations, including referring to images from closed-circuit television (CCTV), and eventually arrested him on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

He was charged on Thursday morning with outrage of modesty to a person under 14 years of age.

If convicted, he could be jailed up to five years, fined, caned or given any combination of these punishments.

With the rise of outrage of modesty cases in Singapore, police have advised members of the public to be alert and attentive of their surroundings while taking public transport.

Such incidents on public transport have come under scrutiny after the recent case of Terence Siow, an NUS student who molested a woman on a North-East Line train.
