At only 25 years of age, Malaysian gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi achieved her lifelong dream of qualifying for the Olympics.
Qualifying for 2020 Olympics
After her impressive performance at the 2019 Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany on Saturday (Oct. 5), Farah became the first Malaysian artistic woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics in 20 years.
The 2020 Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan.
Comments from Malaysian netizens
It was natural for Malaysians to talk about Farah after her big achievement.
Unfortunately, some of the online comments about her were rather startling.
Many disapproved of her gymnast attire as it was "too revealing".
Malaysian sports channel Astro Arena dedicated a Facebook post to congratulate the young gymnast.
If you cannot see the post, here is a screenshot of it:
But the comments under the post showed a number of lewd comments from Malaysian netizens.
"Are you wearing underwear? Just asking."
"There's no more surprise for your husband, because the entire public has seen a large portion of your body already."
"Can see some chubbiness in between but regardless, congrats."
However, some were ready to defend Farah, calling out the crude comments and highlighting her achievements instead.
"To those who have made negative comments, have you guys ever contributed something good for the country and your people?"
"It's no wonder we have a backward mentality. All the comments are disgusting."
Yup.
