A fire broke out at a Jurong East coffee shop on the morning of Oct. 5, 2019.

The incident reportedly occurred at 8:05 am, at a coffee shop on Blk 346 Jurong East Street 31.

A video of the blaze has been circulating on Facebook, showing thick, black smoke billowing out of the windows of the ground floor coffee shop.

The smoke is so thick that it appears to obscure the windows of the second storey flats above.

The short one minute clip shows Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel already on the scene and hosing down the fire, which seems to have started in a stall inside the coffee shop.

Another video, supposedly of the same incident, shows a huge column of smoke rising into the air above the coffee shop and other buildings.

The smoke is clearly visible from a distance away.

Three evacuated from second-storey flat, one taken to hospital

According to The Straits Times, three people were evacuated from the scene, while one was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

The three people had been evacuated from the second-storey residential unit above the coffee shop.

ST reported that the person taken to the hospital was conscious at the time, and was in a stable condition.

The SCDF managed to put out the fire after using three water jets to hose down a kitchen in the coffee shop. The cause of the fire is uncertain, and is currently being investigated.

In a Facebook post on Oct. 5, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu addressed the incident, saying that that agencies would work closely with merchant associations to assist the affected stalls.

Fu, who is Member of Parliament (MP) for Yuhua, also thanked the relevant agencies for their quick actions responding to the fire.

She added that Yuhua grassroots would provide the necessary assistance to affected residents.
