Over 3,000 fans welcome G-Dragon back from military service, topping trending charts worldwide

King of K-pop is back.

K-pop star G-Dragon -- whose real name is Kwon Ji Yong and a member of Big Bang -- has discharged from military service after spending slightly less than two years serving his country.

He enlisted on Feb. 27, 2018 and served in the 3rd Infantry Division at Cheorwon, Gangwon Province.

To many Big Bang fans, also known as the VIPs, as well as fans of G-Dragon, the past one year and eight months probably felt like forever.

And obviously, no one can stop anxious fans from welcoming him at the site, despite the company's attempt to discourage fans from doing so due to concerns over the African swine fever virus.

Over 3000 fans welcomed G-Dragon on site

Over 3000 fans were reported to have witnessed the 31-year-old discharging from the facility at Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

Fans also greeted him warmly by holding placards saying, "One Of A Kind GD Ji Yong".

One Of A Kind is the name of G-Dragon's first single and world tour, which supposedly describes his style of music and personality.

Quite an unprecedented sight.

According to Soompi, G-Dragon thanked the fans for waiting and promised to work hard on his music in the future:

“I’ve returned after completing my military service. Thank you for waiting for me and for coming to see me today. I will be returning to my original occupation, and I will work hard.”
