A heart-stopping moment captured on a dashboard camera showed a boy crossing the road without looking and was struck down by a car.

The video initially started off with what appeared to be a taxi driver, or private hire driver, hashing out some directions as it neared the destination.

However, as they turned into Depot Walk, in between Sri Ruthra Kaliamman Temple and Qi Tian Tian Temple, a family started walking out of one of the temples.

One of the children broke away from the adults and slowly made his way across the road, and one of the woman, presumably the mother, immediately gave chase.

But it wasn’t enough, as the boy unsuspectingly ran right into a car on the other side of the road.

It is unclear whether the boy was hurt after the incident, but he appeared to have been moving and conscious, although he did appear to have had some issues standing during the end of the video.

Here is the full video, uploaded by District Singapore.

Blame and sympathy

As with any case that involves potential tragedy, many commenters tried to find people to blame.

Be it the mother, or the son, or the driver, the car which appeared to have been illegally parked, or even the taxi which they claimed could have honked when the boy was about to cross.

But at the end of the day, instead of doling out blame, perhaps the best thing would be to ensure everything turned out okay for the people involved.

And that the scariest thing about this whole incident turns out to be the woman screaming in the car.
