Using your mobile phone while in bed is a habit of millions of people around the world.

A health warning though: Such a practice can apparently pose a serious health hazard in the long run.

Case in point:

Recently, another case of eye stroke has been reported in China.

Using phone in the dark leads to eye stroke

A man, whose surname is Wang, suffered temporary blindness after using his phone in the dark for too long.

According to Miaopai on Oct. 22, Wang from Xi'an province had to seek medical help due to a sudden loss of sight.

In the video, he said that his right eye can barely see some of the words on his phone.

The doctor told Wang that he had suffered an eye stroke.

An eye stroke is also known as a retinal artery occlusion, whereby a clot forms or blood vessels in the retina narrow, which in turn impedes the flow of signals to the brain.

Even though Wang really loves to play games on his phone, he said that he has to quit this habit now.

He added that his wife does not allow him to look at his phone at night, given that the light from the screen is too bright for the eyes.

20 cases of eye stroke each month

Wang's doctor also revealed that having an eye stroke is not uncommon these days.

He has been attending to about 20 of such cases every month.

He also highlighted that there are more young people suffering from eye stroke.

This is partly due to the reliance on electronic products in daily life, which will cause serious eye fatigue after prolonged use.

He recommends users to not stay up too late and face the screen for too long, as these are contributing factors to an eye stroke.

Wang said that eye stroke can lead to permanent blindness and affect one's quality of life if it is not treated promptly.
