A highway bridge in Wuxi city in Jiangsu, Shanghai collapsed at 6pm on Oct. 10.
According to People's Daily, preliminary investigations revealed a heavily overloaded truck to be the cause of the collapse.
Local newspaper Yangzi Evening News reported that the bridge had fallen while three cars and two trucks were driving over the structure.
The collapsed bridge fell on three cars, which were crushed instantly.
Shocking footage and photographs were spread widely on social media.

A few motorists narrowly escaped, including a motorcyclist who could be seen stopping short in front of the collapsed structure just before it fell.
Massive traffic congestion was reported in the wake of the accident, and more than 10 ambulances were reported on the scene.
The accident has left three people dead, and two injured.
