Jet black skies in the afternoon and evening

On Oct. 22, 2019, the skies in several parts of Malaysia appeared to have transformed into a pitch black blanket of clouds, likely leaving many residents concerned.

These photos of severely stormy skies were reportedly taken in Kuala Lumpur.

What makes it even more bizarre is that, according to a post by Facebook page Siakap Keli, the photos were allegedly captured in the middle of the afternoon.

Northeast monsoon could cause heavy rain and flooding

These apocalyptic scenes might be attributed to the approaching Northeast monsoon.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued an official notice on Oct. 22 of the impending weather conditions.

According to the notice, the monsoon season is expected to last in Malaysia from Oct. 24, possibly all the way till March 2020.

The agency predicted that four to six episodes of heavy rain would occur during this period, which could potentially cause floods in low-lying areas.

And, it seems the rains have already arrived, with flash floods affecting some areas, reported Bernama.

Photos and videos allegedly show places in Malaysia inundated.

From October to January next year, areas such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor are forecasted to be affected by heavy rains.

From January to February next year, heavy rains are suspected to drench places like Sarawak and Sabah.

The agency ended their letter by advising Malaysian residents to prepare for the monsoon season, and keep up to date by referring to announcements and notices.
