Apple's AirPods are well known to be quite expensive, with many considering them overpriced.

So overpriced, in fact, that they have spawned many memes about their affordability (or lack thereof).

Naturally, many people who do own AirPods might feel a little smug about it.

And right when you think AirPods are in the reach of the common man, Apple has done it again.

The new AirPods Pro retails at S$379

Apple introduced the AirPods Pro, an even more expensive version of their AirPods, retailing at S$379.

Apple often chooses to make big product announcements during their annual event, making this a distinct outlier.

The new AirPods Pro boasts  "superior sound quality", with an audio feature known as Adaptive EQ.

According to Apple, the tool automatically tunes low and mid-range frequencies to suit each person's ears.

Another big addition is active noise cancellation (ANC), which employs two microphones on each earbud and software that continuously adapts the level of ANC to the user's ears.

One microphone keeps tabs on ambient noise while the other faces inwards to pick up any additional sound that may remain.

Apple claims that this setup continuously analyses the sound 200 times per second.

But the memes have already begun.

With some memes bemoaning the continuous march of consumerism.

The AirPods Pro retail at S$379, compared to the normal AirPods with Wireless Charging Case, which retail at S$299.

The standard AirPods without a wireless charging case retail at S$239.

If you still have a kidney, now may be the time to sell it.
