A man, 31, and a woman, 30, were charged on Tuesday, Sep. 17 for murdering their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter in 2014 in a HDB flat unit in Block 52 Chin Swee Road.
The murder was only unveiled after five years on Sep. 10.
Neighbours reported to the police about a pungent foul smell from the unit, likely coming out from the corpse.
The suspects have been remanded since June 2018 for drug-related and rioting offences.
The couple is not named due to a court imposed gag order.
Father remanded for psychiatric observation
The male suspect, who is the father of the deceased, appeared in court on Sep. 24 via video-link.
According to CNA, the prosecution requested the man be remanded for three weeks for psychiatric observation.
The request was approved and he will be remanded at the Complex Medical Centre at Changi Prison.
He will make his next appearance in court on Oct. 15 via video-link.
Woman in jail
The mother of the deceased who was also charged, was not present at the court hearing as she is serving her jail term for other offences.
Previously, she was sentenced to five years and two months jail for drug-related offences and theft.
She is set to appear in court on Oct. 1, 2019.
