A photo of a swole full-time National Serviceman in Singapore has captured the public's attention.
This is the July 17, 2019 photo posted on the Basic Military Training Centre Facebook page:
This photo is part of an album showcasing recruits from BMTC Schools I, II, III and IV receiving their SAR 21 rifles at their respective Weapon Presentation Ceremonies.According to the album's description, the Weapon Presentation Ceremony is a significant milestone in every recruit's journey from a civilian to a trained soldier, as being equipped with a weapon is symbolic and marks the readiness of the soldiers to defend the country.
Imran the legend
As apt, and high and mighty as this description is, it was Imran's photo that has seized the public and stirred their collective imagination.
His photo is the only one that has been extensively liked and shared, and commented on.
It has 287 reactions and 651 shares.
Other photos in the BMTC album have only likes and shares in the single digits.
And Imran has even spawned a meme on Sept. 6, almost two months later:
Hence, the Legend of Imran has also rendered the album name suspect, because the event should be called "Imran presented with something he doesn't really need" instead of "Weapon Presentation Ceremony".Imran didn't join the army, the army joined Imran
But it is not difficult to understand why.
You see, this is the man, and now legend, Recruit Imran, from School II, who is the biggest person on Pulau Tekong:
This is his face, which has now become the dictionary definition for "intense", and in time to come, the first image that comes up when you google "last thing you see before you die":
This is his right arm, which is the size of the leg of a normal NSF recruit on Pulau Tekong:
And this guy obviously knows it is a privilege to be standing before a mountain of a man, given that this very moment will go down into the annals of history and concurrently open a new chapter in the Legend of Imran:
What are some of the legends of Imran?
As with all good legends, here are some of the early oral history captured in written script for future adherents to meditate upon and cower in fear as they reflect on their own fragility and mortality.
In accordance with the ever-growing canon of the Imran legend, some have tried to pinpoint his origin story, where he is believed to be a rugby player and an overall swell guy.
