On Sep. 25, a video of a Foodpanda rider packing two statues of Chinese deities, from a carpark altar into his delivery bag, was posted to the Facebook group Sg Chinese Community.

The video's caption alleged that one of the statues the rider was stealing was Dua Di Ya Peh (大二爷伯), an underworld deity in Chinese folklore who escorts spirits of the dead.

Deity takeaway

The video also included multilingual commentaries by several people who appeared to be observing the incident.

At the start of the video, the observers can be heard expressing their amazement at what the rider appears to be doing, when he reaches into the altar for the statues.

Subsequently, once the rider takes the statues out and places them into the bag, a woman can be heard exclaiming, "Wah, very bad eh this guy. Why ah? Transfer to where, don't know."

The observers are then heard laughing and voicing their surprise at the rider placing the statues fully into the delivery bag, with the lady stating, "Wah, the Foodpanda so big pack leh!"

Afterwards, as the rider prepares to get back on his bicycle and ride off, a man can be heard joking in Hokkien that it was the deity that probably wanted to eat Foodpanda.

"This dua ah zek (the deity) anyhow eat food panda. Eat already bring him back."

Foodpanda says activity is unlawful, rider will be fired if found guilty

When contacted by Mothership about the incident, a spokesperson for Foodpanda replied:

"Foodpanda has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to unlawful activities. Any riders found guilty of related offences are immediately ceased as service providers.

We are assisting the relevant authorities in investigating this matter further."
