Parangs, batons, flick knife & taser seized in Yishun during anti-drug raid

A total of 110 suspects were arrested.

On August 20, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized multiple weapons, including three parangs, two batons, a taser and a flick knife, from the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 4.

The weapons were seized as part of a wider anti-drug operation that was conducted from the morning of August 19 to the morning of August 23, a press release by CNB stated.

A total of 110 suspects were arrested.

Weapons were found in the car of two suspects

CNB added that the weapons were found within the cars of two male suspects who were aged 28 and 34 years old.

They were also found to have drugs in their possession.

With regard to the 34-year-old, CNB stated that 25g of "Ice" was found on him at the time of his arrest.

He was then escorted to his rented in the same vicinity, resulting in the discovery of an additional 575g of ‘Ice’, 5g of ketamine, 374 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, cash amounting to S$42,181, and a 37-year-old male suspected drug abuser, who was also arrested.

The 34-year-old was later brought to his car, parked at the foot of the block, which further revealed a taser and a baton.

447g of ‘Ice’, 38 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, three bottles containing an unknown liquid and various drug-taking utensils were also recovered.

As for the 28-year-old suspect, he was arrested while approaching the 34-year-old rented room's at the time of the raid.

A flick knife, around 28g of ‘Ice’, a digital weighing scale, numerous empty plastic sachets, and cash amounting to S$2,600 were recovered from him.

The three parangs and a second baton were then discovered in a subsequent search of the 28-year-old's car.

Arrest of 34-year-old led to arrest of four more suspects on same day

The arrest of the 34-year-old subsequently led to the arrest of four more suspects on the same day, in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 75.

CNB added that its officers were deployed to conduct observation on a suspected drug trafficker believed to be linked to the 34-year-old suspect arrested in Yishun.

As such, the suspected drug trafficker, a 27-year-old male, was eventually arrested he came out of his unit.

Additionally, two more suspected drug abusers – a 20- year-old male and a 26-year-old female – were also arrested within the unit.

As for the drugs recovered within the unit, this came up to about 161g of ‘Ice’, 97 Erimin-5 tablets, 83 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, and a small amount of cannabis and heroin.

A 30-year-old male suspect was also arrested during this operation, as he had been spotted behaving suspiciously at a void deck in the area.

He was found to have possessed a small packet of ‘Ice’, along with other drug utensils and paraphernalia.

CNB further noted that the total amount of of ‘Ice’ seized in the operations on 20 August came up to about 1,236g, enough to feed the addiction of more than 700 abusers for a week.

Total amount of drugs seized worth about S$163,000

The total amount of drugs seized over four days was worth around S$163,000:

  • 1,274g of ‘Ice’,
  • 218g of heroin,
  • 173g of cannabis,
  • 133g of new psychoactive substances,
  • 5g of ketamine,
  • 506 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets,
  • 98 Erimin-5 tablets, and
  • 43 bottles of liquid suspected to contain GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate).

CNB further added that the youngest suspected drug abuser arrested in the operation was a 15-year-old Singaporean male.

Areas covered in this island-wide operation included Ang Mo Kio, Buangkok, Clementi, Hougang, Jurong, Punggol and Tampines.

Investigations into the drug activities of all the arrested persons are ongoing.

The 28-year-old and 34-year-old suspects have also been referred to the police for further investigations into the offence of possession of scheduled weapon.
