A doctor who came across the aftermath of road accident on August 24, 2019, jumped into action immediately and tended to the victim until paramedics arrived.

The scene was spotted by a Mothership reader who was driving through Lower Delta Road in the evening.

As it turned out, Dr. Shravan Verma was previously in the news for helping another accident victim back in 2018.

Motorcyclist was lying on the ground, vehicle overturned

When Shravan and his nurse were driving to their patient in Jervois Close, they saw an overturned motorcycle and a man lying on the ground along the junction at Lower Delta Road.

The driver involved was also present, although Shravan described him as "helpless" when it came to helping the injured man.

The driver then told Shravan that he had collided with the motorcyclist while both of them were trying to make a right turn at the same time.

Seeing that there was nobody else around who could help them, Shravan got out of his car and told his nurse to park the car nearby, while he tended to the victim.

Shravan quickly stabilised the victim and assessed if he was under life-threatening conditions.

He noted that the victim's leg was bent unnaturally, suggesting a fracture.

Overall, the victim's conditions were stable, with no signs of internal or external bleeding.

The victim's mental level also stayed consistent.

SCDF paramedics arrived quickly

According to a spokesperson for the SCDF, the paramedics arrived at the accident scene at 8:10pm.

Shravan revealed that the paramedics were very fast and efficient, arriving within 10 minutes of the accident being reported.

He subsequently cooperated with the paramedics to ensure the victim's stability, safely transferring him to the ambulance.

The victim was taken to the Accident and Emergency at Singapore General Hospital to tend to his injuries.

A privilege to help those in need

Despite being 20 minutes late to his own patient after the incident, Shravan called it a "privilege as a medical professional to be in a position to help" those in need, especially accident victims. He added:

"I just happened to be in the vicinity when this accident occured, and these small actions on my part can’t compare to the actions that the SCDF personnel perform on a daily basis."

His patient was thankfully very understanding after his team explained the incident to them.

As the founder and CEO of mobile medical care startup Speedoc, Shravan hopes to be able to bring better medical care outside of hospitals and into the community.
