The body of a 56-year-old man was found on Sunday afternoon Aug. 18.
This was a day after he was reported missing near Punggol Point Jetty.
His body was located by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers at around 2.30pm.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fishing
The man had apparently been fishing near the jetty when he fell in and appeared to have been swept away, eyewitnesses said.
The police and SCDF personnel started a search at around 7pm on Saturday.
It continued through the night.
Divers joined the search on Sunday morning.
Fallen into sea near restaurants
The Straits Tines reported that the man was believed to have fallen into the sea at around 500m from Punggol Point Jetty.
This is along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk and in front of the House of Seafood.
ST interviewed the restaurant's chief executive who provided an eyewitness account.
The currents were believed to have been strong at that time the man fell into the sea.
The man's family members were apparently seen waiting around Punggol Point Jetty on Sunday as the search was underway.
