Man, 34, allegedly steals safe from VivoCity restaurant with about S$17,000 cash inside

He was arrested on the same day the police report was made.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in housebreaking and stealing a safe from a restaurant in VivoCity.

Safe had about S$16,900 cash

According to a media release from the Singapore Police Force, the 34-year-old allegedly stole a safe containing around S$16,900 cash.

The police were alerted to the case at around 8:40am on Aug. 26.

On the same day, the police managed to establish the identity of the man through ground enquiries as well as CCTV footage.

Only about S$14,000 in cash was recovered.

Will be charged with housebreaking & theft

The media release stated that the man will be charged with housebreaking and theft by night in court on Aug. 28, 2019.

Housebreaking and theft by night is an offence under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the man will face a jail term of two to 14 years and/ or fined or both.

The police has also reminded the public to secure all doors and openings, and to refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises.
