Horrifying CCTV footage of a child in an elevator accident has been circulating on Facebook since Aug. 17, 2019.

The video showed the child yanked upwards with great force by a moving lift when he got caught in a bit of rope.

The caption read: "Playing with a rope can be dangerous and even deadly to children. Be careful..."

The incident is believed to have happened in Turkey, based on the poster in the lift advertising a girls' school in Istanbul.

The post has gathered over 13,700 shares and 1.4 million views.

What happened

The video begins with a young girl entering the lift, followed by a boy and an adult.

A rope is seen trailing behind the boy.

Shortly after, the doors close.

The rope is still looped around the boy's foot, while the rest of it remains outside.

When the lift starts moving, the boy is forcibly dragged upwards by the rope, where he hangs by the door.

The adult rushes to help him.

Thankfully, she manages to save to child, after pressing what is likely an emergency stop button.

Viewers praise adult

Some Facebook users who watched the video felt that the boy was fortunate to be alive.

While others commended the helpful adult for her quick thinking.

"Thankfully the lady was efficient."

"The lady acted very fast. She didn't seem to panic. If not, the kid would have been dead. Be careful to whoever that's going to use the lift."

"That's very dangerous, thank goodness the adult was there."
