Lawyer M Ravi was seen at the Reform Party walkabout in Ang Mo Kio on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, fuelling speculation that he could be part of the party's six-man team to contest in Ang Mo Kio GRC against PAP's team helmed by PAP's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
According to Yahoo Singapore, Ravi said he has decided not to contest in the election with a team of independent candidates -- that included blogger Han Hui Hui and two of his legal interns -- as he initially planned.
He told Yahoo Singapore: “I’m considering joining the Reform Party but I haven’t made up my decision yet. I’m keeping my options open.”
His presence at the walkabout was to "volunteer support", he explained.
This development comes hot on the heels of news that blogger Roy Ngerng has joined RP just a week ago and there is a strong indication he is going to run in Ang Mo Kio GRC, where he will formally cross paths with PM Lee again.
Ngerng and PM Lee previously met in court this year, where the blogger subjected the prime minister of Singapore to seven hours of continuous questioning on the stand during a High Court hearing on July 1, 2015.
However, Ravi's affiliation with RP does not come as a surprise to seasoned political watchers.
He had previously worked with J B Jeyaretnam, a lawyer and firebrand opposition politician, who is RP's secretary-general Kenneth Jeyaretnam's father.
RP's one-on-one contest with PAP is also made possible after Singaporeans First Party announced they are bowing out to avoid a three-cornered fight.
Also present at the walkabout was teenage blogger Amos Yee, who was arrested and charged in March for remarks made in a YouTube video on the late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
