BreadTalk, the Singaporean bread franchise who gave us some creative puns to usher in the goat year, is now facing fierce criticism with its latest pun.
To honour the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, BreadTalk posted a promotional poster just an hour ago today (March 25). In it, they announced a newly created bun called "李不开你" - a pun which means "can't leave you". This bun will be available till April 1, 2015.
It will be filled gula melaka flavoured grated coconut and mixed with attap seed. BreadTalk added that "kampong-inspired creation" is a tribute to a visionary leader.
Netizens are less than pleased with this.
Even though proceeds will be donated to Community Chest.
It's really just bad, bad timing.
Bad pun, bad marketing strategy.
Nope, the man is not meant to be eaten.
This sums it up.
Over to you, BreadTalk.
