When the National Day Rally is here, there are two ways you can catch it: Turn on your TV or stay glued to social media.
Either way you can be informed about exactly what went down when Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivers his most-anticipated speech of the year, or rather speeches of the year because it is in three languages, which is the equivalent of the US president's annual State of the Union Address.
But if you decided to go the social media route, there are surprisingly a lot of things you can learn.
For example:
#1. You know for a fact that PM Lee mentioned about faith in his speech just now.
Or that he at least mentioned "God" once. (See, this is what happens when you treat bloggers with kindness and invite them for Istana tea.)
#2. You learn that PM Lee mispronounced an MP's name.
Hurry or He-Ri?
#3. You gather that PM Lee mentioned that the paper chase is not important -- unless you are an MP.
Fact: Currently, only one out of the 80 PAP MPs is a non-graduate.
#4 You learn who PM Lee is not happy with.
You can read our article on Roy Ngerng if you do not know who he is.
#5 You figured that our Singaporean passport is worth a lot.
#6 You know somehow that this year's rally talked in-depth about financials.
Singaporeans who travel? Find them here and here.
#7 You also learn that money matters were taking centre stage.
#8 You got a feeling PM Lee might have made a mistake.
The minimum sum will be raised from $155,000 to $161,000.
#9 You figured that someone was organising some sort of drinking game online.
You can watch a repeat of PM's NDR and play the game.
#10 You realise people online are camping for some MPs to do certain things they are famous for.
#11 You get the feeling sticks played a major role this year.
#12 You understand there is going to be some big changes with regards to organising rubbish.
#13 Lastly, you figured it's kind of difficult to please everyone all the time.
No, it's not enough for PM Lee to spend the whole National Day Rally talking about your pet topic.
