Amos Yee will be held in remand after his bailor Vincent Law discharged himself.
This came after the 16-year-old violated the terms of his bail by posting a series of 10 updates earlier this morning, which included two blog posts titled "The Ridiculous Terms of my Bail" and "My Abusive Father".
Law, a family and youth counsellor who was formerly with migrant welfare group HealthServe, told The Straits Times that he was forced to discharge himself because Yee refused to comply with bail conditions.
Yee’s lawyers, led by Alfred Dodwell (pictured below), had applied to review bail conditions but the application was turned down by the court. Dodwell said that Yee did not want to comply with ban on social media posts as part of the bail.
The trial will also be expedited and will likely take place within the next two weeks.
“The trial will have little facts on dispute,” Dodwell said. “We would argue that the essential elements of the respective alleged charges has not been made out.”
Yee was offered fresh bail of $30,000 on the same conditions as before - that he not publish anything online. As with before, any Singaporean may post bail for Yee.
Earlier, Yee was slapped by an unknown assailant on the way to court. Yee’s parents will be making a police report, Dodwell said.
Yee will return to court on 4th May, Monday, 4pm.
