The Promise: Another S'porean short film about father-son relationship that wants to tug at your heartstrings

What a killer formula.

Following the viral success of the short film, Gift, which is a cautionary "before-it’s-too-late" tale about not treating your father like dirt because you'd look like an unfilial ingrate, we now have The Promise, another short film that explores this testy father-and-son relationship.

The Promise is described as "a heartwarming story about a widowed father and his son, whose lives are intertwined with a red umbrella they share" on YouTube, where it was uploaded on June 25, 2014.

But what is interesting to note about both these two short films is that they are paid for by organisations with a message to push.

Previously, Gift, by Dainel Yam, was made for the Community Chest and starred Michael Chua, the actor who has a knack for appearing in viral short films.

It has roughly been viewed some 5 million times worldwide, since it went up online in March this year.

The Promise is paid for by PFP Associates, a authorised representative of insurance company, AIA, who will treat you to some of its advertising at the end of the film.

Anyway, knock yourselves out:
