Do you recognise this actor Michael Chua? Did you happen to watch Hentak Kaki, where he acted as a washed out army warrant officer?

It is a straightforward, yet compelling short film by director James Khoo, about the perils of serving in the Army until you are old, injured and jaded.

You might have seen it trending on Facebook some time last year as it was widely shared on social media.

Regardless, Chua, is back this time starring in yet another viral short film, Gift.

Gift has been trending on social media, especially on Facebook, the past few days.

It is a cautionary "before-it's-too-late" tale that has a slight twist to tug at your tear ducts.

But more importantly, this short film also serves as a sampling of how far Singaporean film-making and story-telling has come.

So far, the feedback for Gift, which is directed by Daniel Yam, has been positive.

Chua has also been winning accolades. Earlier in March this year, he won the Singapore Short Film Awards Best Performance for his role in Detour, another short film he starred in.

Interestingly, Hentak Kaki and Gift have been given a boost by Viddsee, which has been touted as an online video platform for filmmakers and audience of Asian short films.

There is a treasure trove of other short films from various genres and documentaries from Singapore and around the Southeast Asia region you can discover there.

Watch them before they even go viral.
