11 places in S'pore you said you'd explore but didn't because excuses

Why go outside when I can send you a link?

Land-scarce Singapore has always been known to be small and easily navigable. But it is no match for the people who have also always been known to be extraordinarily lazy.

This has resulted in scores of Singaporeans who have simply allowed this tiny island set in the sea to go unexplored because the lack of will/ inquisitiveness/ temerity to find out more about places that are not shopping malls is overwhelming.

Regardless, here are 11 places in Singapore you might have never set foot in before because, hey, why go outside when I can send you a link?

1. Neo Tiew abandoned housing estate (Map)

This creepy abandoned Neo Tiew housing estate is located in the godforsaken part of Singapore called Lim Chu Kang.

Since 2002, after the residents moveed out to Jurong West as the place went en-bloc, there are only spirits and wandering poltergeists left.

Just kidding.

This place is frequented by stupid teenagers looking for a quiet place for a spot of hanky panky. But they would run into other groups of bored youngsters, glue-sniffers and paranormal activity hunters, as well as stray dogs.

All fun and games until you accidentally get shot by the military as they conduct exercises there once in a while like for counter-terrorism, or something.

If you think, "Oh wow, this place in Singapore looks like Korea!", well, here's news for you: Korea looks better on average.

This, however, still matches up to the faraway places in the suburbs you see in magazines or on TV sometimes. Except it's 33 degrees Celsius out here and your armpits get way too sweaty.

Good place to make out at night though but plenty of mosquitoes.

3. Choa Chu Kang Jewish cemetery (Map)

Jews are not just the people you read about in the Bible. They were and are in Singapore.

For the perennially bored, you can swing by here if you're driving and want to impress girls that you are very brave. If not, good luck.

Do note that at the entrance, there is a prayer for the deceased to be said by those who have not visited a cemetery in the last 30 days: "Praised be the Eternal, our God, the Ruler of the Universe who created you in judgement, who maintained and sustained you in judgement, and brought death upon you in judgement; who knows the deeds of everyone of you in judgement, and who will hereafter restore you to life in judgement. Praise be the Eternal who will restore life to the dead."

What greater way to work up a sweat than stomp around on muddy fields and wondering what's so great about seeing a bunch of tracks overgrown with weed?

5. Lorong Halus (Map)

Okay, this has got to be the remotest road in Singapore.

Okay, there seems to be bridges everywhere these days.

6. Labrador Nature Reserve WWII installations (Map)

Pew pew pew!

Actually there wasn't any of that because the Japanese came from the north.

7. Istana Woodneuk (Map and instructions)

This house, which looks like it is in its last stage of cancer, is located somewhere near Dempsey but does not belong on state land as it is still owned by our neighbour up north.

However, judging by the number of photos of this place online, almost everyone with a camera has been here.

This is how it looks:

8. Bukit Timah Railway Station (Map)

Yay! Another defunct railway station. A hot favourite with the Instagram crowd, this place is only open in the day because filters don't work at night.

No, joking. Because there hasn't been any maintenance works carried out to refurbish the place.

9. Bukit Batok Town Park a.k.a. Little Guilin (Map)

Source

This park looks like something out of China, but don't be fooled, because China's nature is more natural even though they do make a lot of fake stuff.

Nonetheless, this is a granite rock sitting within a lake and some people like to kick up a fuss reminding us that this piece of rock has been around for millions of years.

Come on, planet Earth has been around even longer for billions of years and I'm not jumping up and down shouting that fact.

10. Kampong Buangkok (Map)

Source

The land in this area is worth millions but some of the landowners are refusing to part ways.

Built in 1956, this is the last kampong left. Which means that it is scientifically proven the people here move much slower than the rest of Singapore.

11. Sembawang Hot Spring (Map)

The water from this spring mysteriously appears amounting to about 150 litres per minute. The exact source of the spring is still unknown.

But this place does smell a bit like hell.

Steam and sulphur odour bubble continuously to the surface and the relatively high sulphide content is believed to cure all manner of ailments resulting in a lot of people flocking here to roll up their pants and waddle around.
