For the next two years, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve will be undergoing major restoration works that will result in limited access to the public.

Full closure of the park will commence on Sept. 15 till next March, the National Parks Board (NParks) announced on June 2, 2014.

After the reserve re-opens, it will only be partially open as the Main Road trail leading to the summit will be accessible to the public only on weekends. The rest of the reserve will remain closed for another one-and-a-half years for more works.

New features to be added include a 1.3km-long raised boardwalk that will be built with railings installed along critical areas of trails to ensure visitors do not fall off the sides and stray off the trails.

Over half of the Reserve's trails will be repaired, slopes stabilised and flora and fauna restored.

There is currently no immediate danger of major landslides or degradation. Restoration work has to be done as preventive measures, NParks reassured the public.

NParks will also be upgrading the Reserve’s visitor centre, which is over 20 years old. It will be upgraded and a new toilet block to house additional washroom facilities will also be built.
