7 things the S'pore Tourism Board ad could have been promoting besides tourism

Wow, what is that? Surprise!

Disclaimer: I am not in the business of schadenfreude.

Please accept my sincere apologies if I'm making the Singapore Tourism Board video that recently went awfully viral appear even more popular and let me redeem myself with this story.

You can watch the video here first if you haven't:

From initial viewings, the video might appear like a tourism ad.

But it dawned on me that this video isn't just about promoting Singapore. It is so much more, especially if you watched it with the sound off.

Here are 7 things that the STB video might actually be promoting besides tourism in Singapore:

1. Quality of MediaCorp’s scripts

The STB video makes MediaCorp’s drama series' dialogues appear Sorkin-like.

No way will anyone hear lines such as, “Wow, what is that?”, “Honey, look!” on our national broadcaster’s TV shows repeatedly (maybe unless it’s VR Man).

2. Singapore is conducive for conceiving

Watching the video might make one pregnant. Such is the wonderful evangelism technique called the missionary video. Fly here and get preggers! We heard got money and tax breaks, too.

3. Work-life balance

This is a great way to sneak in the message that one should work in a cozy room, away from backstabbers, office politics and the decision of whether to keng to apply for sick leave.

Seems like a slice of heaven that Singapore is truly missing. We also want!

4. Inception Part 2

If Gardens By The Bay represents Singapore as a city in the garden, this is Inception all over again.

If it is just a dream, we are not surprised because no one, absolutely no one, talks the way the couple does in real life.

Hint: the cross fade is a major clue. OMG, is the top still spinning?

5. ADHD Awareness

Distracted by almost every sight and sound Singapore has to offer, the woman might be suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which explains the hubby's patience and kind accommodation to everything she wants to see and do.

6. Basic Hygiene

If one wants to put a used pregnancy test kit in a velvety, atas-looking gift box as a surprise gift, it is important to open it only when outdoors and not in a confined space.

Health Promotion Board, do take note. We need a new FAQ on basic hygiene.

7. Condoms

Judging from the husband’s forced “Wow” (for the umpteenth time), it is plain obvious that it’s an unplanned pregnancy.

Nobody will be surprised if the video ends with the Durex logo.
