Singaporean directors Anthony Chen and Boo Junfeng will serve on the judging panel for the 60th Golden Horse Awards, announced the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival in a Facebook post on Oct. 23, 2023.

The panel, which consists of 17 jurors, will discuss and vote on the award winners on Nov. 25, when the Awards Ceremony will be held.

Established in 1962, the Golden Horse Awards is one of the most well-known film awards in Chinese language cinema.

The awards have previously given recognition to filmmakers such as Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai, and Stephen Chow, as well as actors/actresses like Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung, and Chow Yun-fat, according to its website.

Ang Lee to serve as jury president

The judging panel for this year's Golden Horse Awards will be led by Oscar-winning director Ang Lee.

Lee previously served as the Chairman of the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee from February 2018 before he handed over the responsibilities to Taiwanese cinematographer Mark Lee Ping-bing in November 2021.

In addition to directors, other jurors on the panel come from a diverse range of occupations within the film industry, including film producers, actors, and film critics.

Anthony Chen

In Chen's introduction, the film festival Facebook post highlighted his debut feature, "Ilo Ilo," which was awarded the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and four Golden Horse Awards, including Best Original Screenplay, in 2013.

His bio also mentioned that his 2019 film, "Wet Season," was in competition at the Toronto International Film Festival, and his fourth feature, "The Breaking Ice", was premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.

He is part of the Final Stage round jury for this year's Golden Horse Awards.

Boo Junfeng

For Boo, the film festival Facebook page drew attention to his debut film, "Sandcastle," which was premiered at Cannes Critics' Week in 2010.

Six years later, his second feature, "Apprentice," was premiered at Cannes Un Certain Regard and received the NETPAC (Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema) award at TGHFF.

Currently, Boo is also the chairperson of the board of the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), the largest and longest-running film event in Singapore, according to SGIFF's website.

He is part of the Shortlist Stage and Final Stage juries for this year's Golden Horse Awards.
