Things in Yishun are always a bit different and out of the ordinary.

Therefore, it is no surprise that a cat in Yishun has been photographed with a red bindi on its forehead and has been hailed as a "Hindu cat" by cat lovers around the world.

Photos shared with cat lovers

Photos of the cat by a Singaporean man was posted in the Catspotting Facebook group with over 157,000 members.

The group is for cat enthusiasts from all over the world to share photos of cats they have come across.

The post of the Yishun cat with the red bindi attracted more than 1,000 likes in two days.

The unique feature on the cat prompted the Singaporean man to joke in the post: "In multi-ethnic Singapore, even our cats are multi-ethic".

Here are some photos of the cat

The cat did not appear to have been abused or vandalised, nor was it a community cat, judging by its collar, which indicated it had an owner.

It also looked to be well-taken care of.

Reactions

In response, well-wishers from around the world wished the cat a happy Dussehra, which fell on Friday, Oct. 19.

This is a Hindu festival, also known as Vijayadashami, celebrated and observed on the 10th day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin.

The festival also marks the beginning of preparations for Deepavali or Diwali, on Nov. 6, 2018.

Animals with bindi

Having a cat sport a bindi is nothing new though.

Adherents of Hinduism in and around the regions surrounding India have honoured animals for the good they bring to humans.

In countries such as Nepal, animals such as crows, dogs, cows and oxen are celebrated for their positive relationship with humans during the festival of Diwali, which is celebrated over there as Tihar -- also known as the "festival of lights".

Dogs are known to wear the red mark on their foreheads, also known as tilaka, which is often done for guests or idols in prayer.
