The Singapore Democratic Party has responded within an hour by issuing an official statement saying they will be looking forward to contesting in the upcoming Bukit Batok SMC by-election.
This was after PAP MP David Ong Kim Huat from Bukit Batok SMC resigned suddenly.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong made the announcement of the shocking resignation on his Facebook page on March 12, 2016, just after 4pm.
SDP's statement, signed off by their leader, Chee Soon Juan, read:
BUKIT BATOK BY-ELECTION
Following the announcement of the resignation of David Ong from his post as MP for Bukit Batok and from the PAP today, the SDP looks forward to contesting the by-election that will be called in the constituency.
We will continue to push for the alternative policies that we advocated during the last GE and we look forward to be the people's voice in Parliament.
Chee Soon Juan
