PAP MP David Ong Kim Huat from Bukit Batok SMC resigns suddenly, by-election to be called

He quit due to personal reasons.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has announced the shocking resignation of PAP MP David Ong Kim Huat, who is from Bukit Batok SMC.

The announcement was made on PM Lee's Facebook page on March 12, 2016, just after 4pm.

In the General Election 2015, David Ong ran against SDP's Sadasivam Veriyah and independent candidate Samir Salim Neji.

Ong received 72.99% of the votes, Sadasivam got 26.4% while Samir had 0.60%.

The last by-election was held on Jan. 26, 2013. Former Speaker of Parliament and MP for Punggol East SMC Michael Palmer resigned after he had an extra-marital affair with a member of the People's Association staff working in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.
