Known for his rambunctious laughter, animated gesticulations and his love for the microphone, Minister of State for Health, Communications and Information Chee Hong Tat has outdone himself once again.
This time, the 43-year-old took centre stage at River Hongbao 2016 at The Float last night (Feb. 12), belting out a boisterous rendition of a Hokkien number "心头肉" – about a mother's love.
According to Channel 8 news, the Chee Show actually got the crowd going and getai veteran Wang Lei even gave him 80 points for his performance.
Let's see how he got that 80 points.
Costume: 10 points
Obviously not as flamboyant as the hosts but at least he got the colour right.
Stage presence: 20 points
Okay, he was nervous initially. Who wouldn't?
Then he recovered.
He gave the thumbs up. Ok not really.
And then for a moment, he was the getai king of the world.
Diction: 20 points
He told the audience he's a Hokkien lang, so we are going to give him the benefit of the doubt here.
Singing: 30 points

Take a bow, sir.
Check out his full four-minute performance here.
Here's a suggestion for Chee: Since your singing is so good, perhaps it's time that we reintroduce dialect back into the airwaves? You know, so you can perform again for a wider audience which includes the Pioneer Generation.
