WP’s airborne trooper MAJ (NS) Pritam Singh shows up in court in No. 4

He might have some major explaining to do… to his CSM.

Singaporeans found a reason to (re)turn their attention to the immensely long Workers' Party vs. Ministry of National Development saga today, thanks to Aljunied-Hougang Town Council chairman Pritam Singh – who appears to have showed up in court straight out of In-Camp Training (ICT).

In a move that will likely bring many enciks displeasure, the recently-recovered-from-dengue Aljunied MP showed up to the Supreme Court in his No. 4 battledress (in long four), sans headdress.

Here are some other random facts we gleaned from this one photograph and the forums:

1. Pritam Singh is a Major (NS)

Not exactly a Brigadier-General, but a pretty respectable rank nonetheless – I mean, how many reservist officers you know hentak kaki at the Captain (CPT) rank?

2. That’s an airborne badge on his chest

Here’s what one HardwareZone forumer had to say about that…

3. He appears to be jaywalking in the photo

But is he? According to the law (read the statutes here), a person more than 50m away from the nearest pedestrian crossing may cross the road without making use of one.

Here is a diagram that shows the crossings in the area.

Perhaps he crossed within the 'ok-to-cross zone' then.

Last year, fellow lawyer and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s senior counsel Davinder Singh was also spotted crossing the same road with impunity – and there are few people that know the law better than him. So, no way that's illegal, right?

4. As expected, we weren't the only ones that spotted Singh's choice of attire.

Pro-opposition supporters will say he’s serving the country. Pro-establishment folks will argue that it’s all for show.  Yawn.  Typical Singaporean binary reactions.

As for us, we just want to know if his CSM thinks he is a major (wink wink) disappointment.
