Opposition MP-elect Pritam Singh and his baby daughter fight dengue while he collects donations for deceased cleaner

He also turned his Facebook profile and cover images black in a mark of respect to the cleaner and his family.

A week or so after the government warned of a spike in dengue hotspots in the eastern part of Singapore, we learned that politicians are not immune to the pesky mosquito-caused fever either.

Workers' Party MP-elect for Aljunied GRC Pritam Singh recently fell to the illness, and his case was severe enough for him to be warded for treatment:

And yep, if you read that post, you'll have noticed that his baby daughter also came down with it — she, too, had to be warded and from the looks of comments Pritam posted on Monday in response to well-wishes from residents, she had a bit of a way to go before recovering from it:

Meanwhile, more calamity was to befall him: a Bangladeshi cleaner working in one of the estates on Bedok Reservoir Road, managed by Aljunied-Hougang Town Council, passed away while on the job, and leaving behind his wife and three children.

Pritam didn't elaborate on what happened, but this report on the case cited the SCDF as saying he was found in the waste compactor of a centralised refuse chute.

Here's his Facebook post about it:

And now, presumably just after recovering from dengue, he's back to his town council chairmanly duty of coordinating the collection of donations for the cleaner's family:

We certainly don't envy him or his job, but if you're an Aljunied GRC resident, or even a kindhearted soul moved by this man's untimely passing, please follow the directions above to donate to his family.
