A YouTube video uploaded on March 30, 2015, provides a glimpse into what the late Lee Kuan Yew' thoughts about about how meditation helped him with making decisions as a leader and even shows him meditating towards the end of the 17-minute long clip.

Lee spoke to Laurence Freeman OSB (Order of Saint Benedict) on how leaders should meditate before making tough decisions, with Lee's friend Ng Kok Song (formerly with the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation) in attendance.

Freeman, 63, is a Catholic priest and a Benedictine monk in England and the Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation.

The video was reportedly recorded on Aug. 21, 2013, which means he was 89 years old then before his birthday in September.

In Tom Plate’s Conversations with Lee Kuan Yew book, Lee mentioned that he "started meditation about 1992 when my friend, who was speaker of Parliament, retired, and was dying of lung cancer".

Lee said that he found that his breathing "slows down" and he thought that his heartbeat and blood pressure also went down. He added that he used meditation "as a kind of escape from stress".

In his eulogy last Sunday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also mentioned how his father started meditating again following the passing of Kwa Geok Choo:

"In his old age, after my mother died, my father started meditating again, this time with help from Ng Kok Song, whom he knew from GIC. Kok Song brought a friend to see my father, a Benedictine monk who did Christian meditation. My father was not a Christian, but he was happy to learn from the Benedictine monk. He even called me to suggest that I meet the monk, which I did. He probably felt I needed to resume meditation too. To give you some context, this was a few months after the 2011 General Elections. I was nearing 60 by then, and he was nearly 90. But to him I was still his son to be worried over, and to me he was still a father to love and appreciate, just like when I was small. So this morning, before the ceremonies began at Parliament House, we had a few minutes. I sat by him, and meditated."
